There was a useful discussion down in the club on Thursday last to agree next cruises to be undertaken. There was a consensus that we should also take notice of cruises organised by partner clubs or the Cruising Association of Ireland (CAI).
The following cruises were agreed, beginning with the ‘Blessing of the Boats’ and the trip under the Liffey Bridges, taking off from our twinned Club, PYBC:
Occasion | Location | Date | HW |
Blessing of the Boats | Poolbeg YBC | 13th May | 10.53am |
Malahide Muster (CAI) | Malahide | 26th May | 10.21am |
DMYC cruise to Greystones | Greystones Marina | 2nd June | 14.30pm |
DMYC cruise | Ardglass /Peel, IoM | 30th June | 13.35pm |
CAI Two week cruise to Kyles of Bute and the Firth of Clyde. | Participating boats rendezvous at Bangor before commencing cruise | 14th July |
For information on the cruising plans of the Irish Cruising Club – please contact Sean Fergus; the office can put you in touch if you don’t have his contact details.
Weather permitting – it’s always weather permitting – we can expand on these plans. Again, we shouldn’t forget to include the short day-long trips with occasional stops off at Sorrento Point and the like – much favoured by Captain Kennedy and his regulars! In all cases with the exception of the Poolbeg event the timings are approximate pending a detailed consideration of the tide and wind directions, long-term forecasts etc.
Again, I would like to draw the attention of members to participate with their boats or as crew for any of these events. A list for the PYBC ‘Blessing of the Boats’ has been hung on the bar for skippers and crew members to sign up indicating their interest. New skippers and crew members are always most welcome and no previous experience is required. Crews on previous cruises can, I’m sure, vouch for a happy and often exciting cruising experiences with fellow members of the DMYC.
All are most welcome.
Liam Owens.
